The background for developing our employees’ competences is clear: if Elfac wishes to retain its goal to deliver high quality on time, each employee must be ready to take responsibility for their own job, and must have the necessary electrical knowledge and technical competences to undertake the task.
Elfac therefore ensures that employees receive continuous competence upgrading through, for example, on-site training and relevant courses. Each employee has their own skills cards – which is rather like a competence log – that explains exactly what tasks the employee is trained to perform.
Through annual appraisals with all employees, Elfac focuses on competence levels where these can possibly be strengthened or developed.
We have discarded the term “unskilled”
Elfac has discarded the term “unskilled” because we do not believe that it reflects the actual competence and responsibility level our production employees possess. We choose to use the term “process worker” instead.
